Paramore: Welcome To Femo

That's right, I said it: femo. Female emo. That's what Paramore is, sort of. It's not an all female band, just the singer, and though you might be confused about what that sounds like in light of groups like The Donnas, let me just say that they pull it off very well. Punkish in nature, the riffs and hooks are all in the right place to make this an accessible band and album.

I'd heard about them from various sources and always wanted to check them out, so I finally did a couple weeks ago. To be honest, I was not sure what I felt about the music when I first heard it. But having heard 'Misery Business' several times now, the song, and their music in general, has really grown on me. And it totally helps that the singer, Hayley Williams, and her fiery hair keep you visually enticed as well. I gotta see them in concert just so I can get a shot like the one on the right here.

What I appreciate about the music is that there isn't the general whiny nature that comes with the territory of female vocalist led punk groups. I cannot stand another Avril Lavigne song as long as I live and would rather listen to 50 Cent's new album than hear 'hey, hey, you, you, I could be your girlfriend'. Don't even get me started on 50 Cent. After proudly boasting that he was gonna outsell Kanye's album, he's a couple hundred thousand album sales behind. And upon confrontation, he comes up with some lame line about his fans wanting him to change? Quit the music business, my ass. Anyhow, digressions aside, Paramore is doing what they're doing really well. Their overnight success with Riot! is rather interesting, but welcomed nonetheless. Every once in a while, a good band breaks out into the mainstream, and all you can do is be happy for them.

So, all the best to Paramore!

Based on your previous recommendation I checked their album and I really like it too! Not generally one for the female/rock thing but this is one of the few exceptions!
