Breathe In, Breathe Out: New Mat Kearney Song
In a word, this song is breathtaking (pun intended). If you didn't know this already, I'm a big Mat Kearney fan. Though you might have your quips about him being on a major label, I've been listening to him since he was an independent artist. He hasn't changed and let the record deal get to his head, and his music's only gotten better. This song is refreshing after having heard some of the songs on the Aware release for over 3 years!
The thing that I absolutely love about this song is the fact that he wrote it a couple weeks ago, recorded it early last week, and had it picked up by Grey's Anatomy for their upcoming season's soundtrack, out this week. Allow me to digress for a second. I don't think I would EVER succumb to watching that show, but they actually have a pretty good soundtrack this season, featuring Peter Bjorn and John, Feist, The Bird & The Bee and of course, Mat Kearney, all of whom have been featured here. Good album, pass on the show.
In any case, the track really is great, and reminds me about what it is I enjoy about his music in the first place. I'm attaching the lyrics as well for those of you who'll leave comments asking about them. Hope you enjoy the song, and if you do, consider grabbing the album.

Haha - yeah, I totally do - I seriously told myself I wasn't gonna see Mat again till he wrote some new stuff, so now I can see him the next time he passes through (I've only seen him 10 times :p)
And yeah, it's a really great song!
I agree - wouldn't watch Grey's Anatomy, but they know how to pick some good music! Don't know Mat, so thanks for the recommendation. Sounds like it would also fit very well on a Scrubs soundtrack or any Zach Braff movie :)
Haha - yeah, if Cary Brothers is on Braff's movies, then Kearney could as well, but Braff's an indie snob, and would NEVER pick someone off Aware :D

This is such an amazing song! Mat never ceases to amaze me, and he sure makes me proud to be an Oregonian!
no spoken word in this song though! one of the first things i noticed although i adore this tune.
