John Mayer Plays Hollywood Bowl
Sunday night, John Mayer played a fabulous set at the Hollywood Bowl, and as much of a fan I was of his music before, I respect him even more so as a musician now. Musically, he's grown incredibly since I saw him 4 years ago, and the persona he had on stage was one that was humble and awed as opposed to the one that seems cast of him a lot as of late. So it was definitely refreshing. He's on tour all summer, and so if you get to check him out, definitely do it. I would definitely pay 80 bucks all over again if he was playing another set locally.
Setlist:
1. Why Georgia
2. Belief - featured a sick blues intro
3. Good Love Is On The Way - "I've got no proof to support that theory..." said Mayer right before he got into the song
4. Gravity - "This is a song from the deepest part of my heart to you..."
5. Neon - played a jazzy intro and scatted at parts throughout the song; also the guitar he used has this crazy fretboard that inverts in at the top of the neck, and outwards towards the bridge
6. Slow Dancing In A Burning Room
7. No Such Thing - introduced it as the song that made his career
8. Vultures - had a free vocal jam and featured an amazing saxophone solo
9. Dreaming With A Broken Heart - my favorite tune that evening, done incredibly well
10. Bigger Than My Body
11. Wheel - had another awesome sax solo
Encore:
1. 3x5 - intro'd the song by playing Springsteen's 'I'm On Fire'
2. Your Body Is A Wonderland - surprisingly, he said that this was the song he was absolutely proud of.... uhm, yeah
3. Waiting On The World To Change - ended the night with this song, and did a great job with it
Again, an absolutely wonderful night. And to think, I almost passed up on it!
John Mayer - Clarity (Acoustic)
John Mayer - Neon (Live)

Saw him up in San Jose and loved it as well. We were in Row 8 which makes for a completely different experience... Some photos and video on my blog (http://leavethegreatindoors.spaces.live.com)
Definitely - I had a great view, but it wasn't Row 8 for sure :D
