Buildings Breeding Breed Beautiful Pop

Say that 5 times fast. Okay, maybe not. But anyways, Buildings Breeding out of Davis, CA do make some beautiful pop music that's fancied my attention as of late. The album's out next week, but there's a link where you can stream the entire album (below), and check it out before you grab it.

Chris Larsen was the mastermind behind this band. Originally started as a project under an alias, Larsen soon got the help of Melanie Glover, the two of whom originally formed the band. A little while after they added a couple other members to form a full band. But through a lot of the songs you can hear Larsen and Glover are pretty much the foundation of the album. So what's so good about these guys? Well, first of all, their music has a somewhat lo-fi feel to it that I love about certain bands. Only certain bands can get away with it, and these guys most certainly do.

Also, the way the guitarwork accents the vocals (for both Larsen and Glover) is absolutely beautiful. One of my first favorites off the album has to be 'Emma Wood'. It's got Glover leading the way with her gentle vocals with the acoustic guitar creating the melodies she sings over while the electric creates an ambiance that's to die for. Another one I enjoy is 'Youth Is All That's Left' where Larsen does the singing over the acoustic guitar and Evan Hart creates the atmosphere that his job title suggests he should be creating.

Some of the other highlights are 'Lion on Summer St.' and the album opener 'Stacking Up Reasons'. So check out the songs below, and stream the album. If you're in the Davis area, they're having a free show for their album release (link below). Check it out if you can!
